Mark Lax: Knights of the Air

The Australian Society of WW1 Aero Historians invites you to a talk by Mark Lax on Saturday 22 February 2025 at Roseville Uniting Church Hall. The talk will also be available via Zoom.

About the talk

Mark Lax will present Knights of the Air — those AFC members who were later knighted for their services. At least eleven Australian Flying Corps members received knighthoods, seven from No. 1 AFC alone. The talk will provide brief biographies of these individuals and discuss their contributions to Australian military aviation.

About the speaker

Mark Lax is a retired RAAF Air Commodore, historian, and educator with a PhD and Master’s degree in military history. He has written extensively on aviation history, including books on No. 1 Squadron AFC and Wings Over Mesopotamia – Air War on Iraq 1914–1918. He has also authored official RAAF histories and contributed to the Australian War Memorial’s research programs. A past president of Canberra Legacy and current Vice-Chair of Legacy Australia, Mark remains an active member of the Society and a frequent contributor to the ‘14-‘18 Journal.
